Marriott plans substantial expansion in Europe by 2020


First plans revealed since 2016 Starwood acquisition

Marriot is planning to double the number of ihotel rooms it has in Europe by 2020, and to lead the upscale market in the region by doing so — it currently has the fiſth-largest portfolio in that segment, with 24,000 rooms from brands such as AC Hotels, Aloſt Hotels and Four Points by Sheraton. The company is set to expand its Courtyard Hotels presence in Europe by 12,000 rooms by 2020, with openings in Paris, Dresden and Edinburgh set for 2017. The Residence Inn and Element brands will also add 30 hotels. It currently operates the largest


portfolio of hotels in the luxury and full-service sectors in Europe and is


planning to expand its lead through focused growth of its luxury brands such as The Ritz-Carlton and St. Regis, its collection brands, including The Luxury Collection, Autograph Collection Hotels and Tribute Portfolio, plus Marriot Hotels and Sheraton. The company is also planning to introduce Delta Hotels by Marriot into Europe and to triple the number of signed deals for design brand W Hotels. The company also aims to add


22,000 rooms to affordable lifestyle brand Moxy Hotels, of which 18,000 are expected to open in the next three years. This year, Moxy Hotels are opening in London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Vienna and Oslo.


ANANTARA IN EUROPE Luxury hotel brand Anantara, which operates hotels across Asia, the Indian Ocean, Africa and the Middle East, opens its first property in Europe on 1 April with the launch of Anantara Vilamoura Algarve Resort in Portugal. The 280-room hotel is 15 minutes from Faro Airport and a five-minute drive from Vilamoura. anantara.com
