World Travel Market London 2015 will be opened by David Gill (pictured), former chief executive of one of the world’s most valuable and well-known football clubs, Manchester United. Gill began his career as a chartered accountant with Price Waterhouse in San Francisco; he then joined the BOC Group in its corporate finance department, and went on to Avis Rent a Car before working as Finance Director at First Choice Holidays PLC, part of the TUI AG Group of companies. Gill will open this year’s event on Monday 2 November at ExCeL London at the WTM Leaders’ Lunch, which will host 200 of the industry’s most senior executives. BBC presenter Stephen Sackur will interview Gill about his career in the football business as well as his previous careers within travel, which will offer the senior travel industry audience inspiration and practical advice as to how they can develop their own businesses.
Experience & expertise At Avis, Gill was responsible for the disposal of the European leasing business to GE Capital for US$1 billion. He was also finance director at Proudfoot PLC, the worldwide management consulting business, and then moved onto First Choice Holidays PLC.
Over the years at Manchester United, Gill was also involved in the day-to day running of the club, including sponsorship & marketing, business

development, financial services, conference & catering, membership and group property.
In 2006, Gill was elected onto the
board of The Football Association, and then in 2012 appointed to Vice- Chairman and, more recently, was elected as Britain’s FIFA Vice-President. Gill’s son, Oliver, a former player for Manchester United, is now following in his father’s footsteps, hanging up his boots for a university degree and a career in business.
