of qualifications, they are different. They share some issues of generic interest such as communication skills and devising practice, but they also go deeper into areas of specific relevance and as such equip the coach with a greater understanding of the issues pertinent to young player development. As a result, coaches who wish to pursue a career path with the development of young players as a key component are best advised to follow the Youth Award route. Conversely, if a coach wishes to prepare in order to operate effectively within the team environment, where game outcome is a major determinant of success, then an alternative route must surely be preferable. To this end coaches can now access UEFA B and A Licence courses which have been completely re- written within the last two years in order to ensure that they provide the best possible educational framework, and the latest technical and tactical information available.
Given this extended range of provision it is logical to try to employ methods which ensure coaches access the courses most appropriate to their long term ambitions, whilst giving due consideration to their short term capabilities. Coaches should not feel compelled to enrol on the next course just because it’s there. They should rationalise the benefit of any such participation on their current activities and their future aims and if they are already equipped to do what they want to do, then they should simply retain their status on an ongoing basis. up skill eg: attendance at County Coaching Association events, or alternatively, relevant information / experience may be found outside of the context of football.
For many coaches, successful completion of the Level 2 CCF Course is the point at which any divergence will occur. This may well be the time at which coaches who wish to proceed, look to identify a preferred progression route within either development or result orientated coaching.

The Level 2 CCF no longer forms part of the UEFA B qualification but is a component of the pre-requisites for acceptance. Prior to these changes and ongoing, it provides coaches with a clear understanding of the principles of invasion games and as such is the ideal platform from which to look at developing the individuals within a team sport (the focus of FA Youth Award) or the advanced application of the Principles of Play in Football ( a key aspect of the new UEFA B Licence). It should be noted that many coaches will find both routes appropriate to their personal needs from time to time as their coaching circumstances change, or due to the fact that they operate in an environment where extensive knowledge of all the issues involved is a pre-requisite eg: Elite Youth Development 17-21 .
Coaches wishing to pursue the new UEFA B Licence are required to submit letters of application and copies of their Level 2 CCF Action Plan issued on completion of that qualification. A similar selection process is also repeated at UEFA A Licence level for continuity purposes. The reasons for this process are as follows:
