Breaking Bard

IT’S 400 YEARS since the Bard of Avon shuffled off this mortal coil, and Selfridges is having a major Shakespearean moment with a sleek-looking theatre popping up in its basement in August. Until then, the ever- changing Ultralounge pop-up space is going full luvvie thanks to a takeover by Rada, whose tutors will host masterclasses ranging from Elizabethan ruff-making to stage combat, where fight directors will show you how to land the perfect blow without actually killing someone. From July 18 theatre company The Faction will also be in residence, rehearsing publicly for their performance of ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ which opens the following week: that’s right, you get to see a play in a shop! And all the way through summer, some of London’s best musicians – including former Young Mayor of Lewisham candidate Novelist – will be spitting some blank-verse bars. ■ Miriam Bouteba à ‘Shakespeare Refashioned’ runs until Sep 25.
