London Hello,
Caroline McGinn Editor @carolinemcginn
Wowzers, what a week. As we emerged blinking from our newsfeeds, many Londoners who weren’t born in the city (one in three of us, by the way) were feeling worried. Mainly because of the much smaller number of absolute douchebags who thought a mass exercise in democracy was a great excuse to get stuck in with some racism
and xenophobia. We heard from Europeans in this city (p39). And found Londoners doing lovely things to cheer us all up (p12). Your comments below are more evidence that, wherever we’re from and however we vote, we’re all part of an incredible city that we call home.

YOU SAID IT There’s nothing like a crisis to generate some London love
‘London is the best place I’ve lived: a magic city with wonderful people. !! London !!.’ Sandra S via Facebook
‘I am Polish and I moved to the UK seven years ago. The thing that I
love about London the most is its diversity. I have recently decided to take advantage of living in
such a multicultural city and try as many different cuisines as I can. How lucky are we to be able to try new food and learn about
different cultures? It’s all thanks to immigrants who live here, run
all these beautiful restaurants and proudly share their traditions with us. How can we not appreciate that? It’s brilliant! :)’
Agnieszka V via Facebook ‘London is great, not perfect,
nowhere is. But the mix of cultures makes it one of the best places to live and experience. If you don’t
like that then maybe it is you who should leave? xxxxx’ Julian C via Facebook
‘Thank you London for not once making me feel like an outsider.
For giving me friends from all over the world. For teaching me how to survive in a big city and then
rewarding me with the best food, concerts and art I could ever want. I obviously think you’re too expensive but there’s a reason we
all cling on. Irrespective of our race and religion, we like being called “Londoners”.’

always felt like home precisely for that reason, for the melting pot
of cultures. That’s what made me fall for London head over heels in the first place !!!! Let our
city be better every day and more overflowing with love!!!!’ Cláudia F via Facebook
‘London is and always has been a
place where all nationalities live in harmony. Long may it remain so.’ Lucy E via Facebook
‘London is my second home – I’m Brazilian. All the time I feel respect, freedom and
I can always be myself in this lovely place!.’
