FEATURE THE DOMOTEX CONNECTION
The DOMOTEX Connection
Come January there’s only one place in the world to be – Hannover for Domotex. We caught up with Dr Jochen Köckler to find out what’s in store this year.
Now celebrating its 26th year, the Domotex flooring show, held each January in Hannover Germany, is firmly marked into all of our calendars as a must-attend event. But for those of us who have been attending for many years how do the organisers keep things fresh?
As member of the managing board at Deutsche Messe trade fair company, it’s the responsibility of Dr Jochen Köckler to ensure that the show runs smoothly and there’s plenty to keep visitors inspired. “We are deeply convinced that when running a tradeshow there are three aspects of paramount importance. The first aspect is innovation; the second is internationality and third is attracting top decision-makers. If you have these three things together then you have a great show,” said Jochen.
“Over the last few years we have really worked towards strengthening the aspect of innovations and developed the new concept innovations@DOMOTEX. We feel that this is more and more recognised by both the exhibitors and the visitors.”
Innovations@DOMOTEX is now in its third year and all exhibitors are invited to submit their latest products and compete for a high-profile presence at the event. A jury of experts then meet up each November to select the most imaginative and visionary products, which will be put on display in stylishly appointed settings in halls 6, 9 and 17.
In this way Innovations@DOMOTEX gives visitors a quick and convenient way to check out the latest products on offer by exhibiting suppliers, and provides signposting for the

various areas. The platform will also play host to a programme of talks, branded the Dialogues and a series of guided tours featuring celebrity guest speakers such as the architect Wolf D. Prix and architect and designer Piero Lissoni.
Jochen commented: “We aim to open channels of communication and these very famous architects will offer an open dialogue and then a guided tour. This means that visitors will have the opportunity to engage in direct discussion with the speakers and then go directly to exhibitors where they can offer feedback.
“This direct exchange of information ensures that exhibitors will be able to launch a product then hear immediate opinion. For us connecting people with the right people is extremely important, that and providing inspiration.”
Regarding the aspect of internationality, Domotex is still the largest flooring trade show in the world. With over 45,000, visitors expected to attend from 100 countries and 85% of exhibitors from outside Germany this is a truly international event.
“We have 12 halls in around 90,000m² so it’s four or five times larger than any other flooring show. DOMOTEX is really the number one in the world of flooring and I feel that the gap between us and the other shows is growing each time rather than shrinking. Our position is important for the concept as for anyone who makes decisions on flooring, you must be here to be inspired, see the trends and be part of the industry,” Jochen concluded.
