neutral colours, one glance at the Studio Wave wall tile and you will be transported to faraway golden sands, watching waves crash on the shore.
The Canela and Ash Tree textured tiles call to mind that elusive, cosy hideaway beach shack made of wood planks and a palm leaf roof. Also from the Tileworks range, they are rectified matt glazed ceramic, textured to look and feel like wood planking. The Canela tile features a warm brown colour resembling the soft hue of its cinnamon namesake, whereas the Ash Tree is a light greyish brown like the bark.
Jane Addis, New Product Coordinator and Designer at Original Style, has forecasted beach-inspired, neutral and nature- inspired colours and designs to be a hit in 2016.
Jane said: “The most desired finishes will be faux wood, and aged-effect or shabby chic will also be very popular.”
Jane then continued to discuss the benefits of using inkjet printed wood-effect tiles like Canela & Ash Tree, stating: “A wood effect, for example, offers the same visual benefits as natural wood without the negatives of rotting or colour fading. Replications of wood planks in timeless, deep shades are most definitely in.”
One of the greatest benefits of beach-inspired tiles is the fact that, whilst they are on-trend now, the timeless colours and designs they feature mean that they will never go out of style. This is one reason why it is integral for small retailers and

dealers to not only be knowledgeable about trends, but also to have a multi-faceted sales and marketing strategy in order to keep their customers happy and increase sales.
“Housing transactions and renovations are the key to tile sales increasing in 2016 through consumer purchasing, coupled with dealers becoming more savvy in terms of marketing from a trade perspective. Marketing trends, products, and even themselves,” Rob said.
This is a key strategy for small retailers to adopt, as there are many bigger competitors on the market that consumers can ultimately go to, so the buck lies with the small business to essentially demonstrate to consumers the sort of high- standard and extensive knowledge and personal, one-on- one attention that only they can provide.
It is always a good choice for the customer to visit at least two or three independent retailers as the quality of service is often much better and the customer can count on a holistic approach, as well as professional advice.
At the end of the day, customers will always need an architect, a dealer or a retailer when it comes to home renovation as they often do not have the ability to visualise or communicate exactly what it is that they want.
That is why it is important to keep customers inspired by the settings installed in the showroom. Good displays are crucial as they help customers imagine what their own room could look like and how the product can be used.
