IN STORE AT FLOORING 4 YOU
Alan said: “We have such a variety of customers so have to tailor our range to cater for this. From the modest two-bed to a giant 10-bedroom mansion, we fit all sorts which is why we can meet most budget expectations.
“People are often surprised to find a store in an affluent area like Knutsford that can provide great service and reasonably priced products.”
Moving out of the ground floor area towards the door, you are met with one of the more vibrant collections in the store from manufacturer of natural floorcoverings and rugs, Crucial Trading. With beautiful colours and textures, these designs can create unique and quirky looks whilst remaining elegantly understated.
Sales Insight
General Manager, Alan Prescott, talks us through his predictions for this season and sales insights.
Who is currently selling the best?
This would be a gut feeling, but I would say Karndean is doing very well at the moment and, in the soft range, Cormar Carpets.
What colours and tetures seem to be moving?
Karndean’s Van Gogh woods are aways popular. The trends change almost monthly. We don’t have time to study the trends so finitely so it’s important that we have at least a small selection of the latest things from each brand.
What are your predictions for net season?
In carpets we’ve seen a slight movement towards stronger colours and a very slight interest in patterns.
What is the cornerstone of Flooring 4 You’s success? It’s the personal touch and the fact we are more interested in our customer getting the right product than making a fast buck. We will spend as much time with the customer as is necessary.
in that section. The shop is fortunate enough to have space to display the full range of Amtico tiles.
Moving through to the back of the shop, you can find an alcove of Cormar Carpets with an extensive selection tailored for everyone and every budget.
Over to the left-hand side, the showroom displays a collection of popular Karndean LVT products.
Dotted around the showroom are rolls of Ulster carpets. The company stores a range in its garage facilities and trials a selection at a time.

“Crucial Trading is a major player with a great reputation. Our customers often like to stamp their own personality on their house without it being in poor taste and I find Crucial Trading helps meet that need,” added Alan.
The upstairs area predominantly focuses on wooden floors and laminate floors. The first area you walk into showcases a small laminate selection from Villeroy and Boch, French- engineered wooden flooring from Panaget, and engineered laminate flooring from Quick-Step.
The back section of the upper-floor is dominated by the presence of designer brand, Ted Todd. Flooring 4 You’s selection of Ted Todd wooden floors caters for a large variety of tastes.
The personal touch
Providing a high-standard of service is very important to the business which is why all of their fitters are employed by them and trained by Quickstep and Karndean. They have certificates of completion from various organisations, such as Quickstep and Master Installer.
Alan explained the importance of employing their own fitters: “It is absolutely crucial to us that we use our own fully-trained fitters, as opposed to sub-contractors, as it is the only way we can monitor a good standard of installation.
“Simon and I both have experience in other companies we have worked for of how poor standards can have a negative impact on a business. Many people in this industry see price as being the main attraction but we put it down to a mix of the two, so we want to give a fair price without compromising on the quality of service.
“We want to give a fair price, not necessarily the cheapest. We have a common goal with the customer; the customer wants fantastic floors, good workmanship at a fair price and we want the customer to have fantastic floors, good workmanship and all for a fair price.”
Though Alan stressed that it is still very early days, he did suggest the possibility of expanding the Flooring 4 You brand to more locations in the future which will also mean an increase in personnel.
