Some textile-backed, sheet vinyls with integral waterproof interlayers, can reduce fitting time and costs further by loose- laying directly over concrete that has not fully dried out, without applying ply or screed to the floor, and also over most existing smooth floorings. As this type of vinyl can automatically compensate for minor irregularities in the subfloor, it can also give a better appearance to the finished floor and provide a good alternative to conventional vinyl in certain subfloor conditions.
In addition, conventional, foam-backed vinyl is prone to lifting and bubbling due to moisture, temperature and moisture common in newly built properties, whereas textile- backed vinyl that is designed to be loose-laid, encompasses technology that can help eliminate such failures.

The Perfect Fit
Vinyl flooring is versatile and generally easy-to-install. However, as manufacturers have developed new technologies and introduced alternative types, it is also important to consider the laying conditions and best installation method before considering what type of vinyl flooring will deliver this.
Traditionally bonded, sheet vinyl flooring and LVT floorings require adhesive and smooth, flat, screeded subfloors. The subfloor must fully dry out before adhesive is applied and the flooring is fitted. Although traditional sheet vinyls can be fitted by non-professionals or general flooring fitters, LVTs require specialist tools and fitters, which increase the cost per square metre of the flooring. However, these top -quality vinyls are high performing and great looking.
On the other hand, loose-lay vinyls can also provide top looks and quality without specialist fitting. Generally fast and less costly to install, they come in two types: textile-backed, sheet vinyl in two, three and four- metre widths that can typically be laid in one piece and LVT click and lock floorings with clever, built-in interlocking technology.
