Gerflor HQR Avenue Naturel
This stylish design is hardwearing and suitable for the whole home.
Natural moods, encapsulated in authentic wood designs with subtle undertones of colour, are very popular in the interior market as of late. Natural oak with whitewash and grey undertones that work in modern or classic settings are used to embody this theme. In contrast, dramatic greys and soft whites are being used in mineral and concrete designs to create an urban look, also popular this year.
With such flexibility in design and colour, plus advanced graining and texturing effects, vinyl can create a look to meet virtually every taste or decorative scheme, from contemporary city chic through to a traditional country elegance. Not only is it hardwearing, warm, comfortable and easy to maintain, luxury vinyl is also a design statement in its own right.
Decisions, Decisions
But to stay looking good and stand the test of time, the flooring must also be fit-for-purpose. As luxury vinyl now comes in many different specifications and price points, there is a wide variety of flooring to choose from. However, in order to capitalise on the alternatives and guide customers to the best option, it is important to consider where the flooring will
be used, what performance characteristics are important and what the laying conditions are likely to be.
For instance, if customers are looking for a quieter home, an acoustic vinyl with 17db or greater levels of sound insulation will help reduce impact noise and will even be quieter than traditional vinyl. For a cosier living space or bedroom, a thicker vinyl of at least 2.8mm will provide more cushioning underfoot and added warmth. In areas where water or liquid spillage is a risk, a slip-resistant vinyl will tick the boxes. If the flooring is to be laid in damp conditions or where a damp-proof membrane is not installed, a vinyl with a built-in waterproof interlayer is ideal.
Vinyl flooring is known as a more practical choice and is easier to clean and maintain than many other flooring types, but not all vinyls are equal, particularly when it comes to durability. The thickness and quality of the wear layer should be used as guidelines for longevity as well as product guarantees, ideally of between 10-15 years. High-performing, vinyl sheet, tile or plank floorings will be around 2.8mm thick or more with a wear layer of 0.30mm and a textile backing. High-end luxury vinyl tiles (LVTs) and planks will have a wear
