MBS ACCESS RISES TO THE CHALLENGE AT ICONIC

SHOPPING CENTRE A lightweight tracked boom lift helps make window cleaning quicker and more convenient at an iconic shopping centre.

Central Milton Keynes shopping centre is famous for its glazed, street-style arcades. However areas of the interior side of the glazing were considered inaccessible by a boom lift due to weight restrictions on the floor.

Independent hire company MBS Access rose to the challenge thanks to its investment in the Hinowa 26.14 crawler-mounted boom. This tracked boom has low ground pressure, yet can still reach heights of up to 25.7m, as well as providing horizontal reach of 13.6m. These capabilities enabled the machine to be set up on the ground floor, then reach up and over a two-storey food court in order to reach the mall’s glass frontage.

Ben Dobson, Director of MBS Access, said: “The window cleaners told us that they hadn’t been able to use powered access for this job for about a decade. There is an underground car park pretty much directly beneath the floor so ground pressure is a real issue.

“The Hinowa 26.14 combines light weight and low ground pressure with excellent reach, so it could get the job done. The window cleaning company were in and out in a matter of hours, providing a faster and more efficient service for the shopping centre.”

A tracked boom lift, the Lightlift 26.14 has very low ground pressure, making it ideal for working indoors on sensitive flooring as well as outdoors on soft ground. The machine retracts to just 990mm wide for passing through doorways or in between buildings and has a transport length of less than 6m thanks to the easily detachable basket.

The Lightlift 26.14 can lift 230kg – enough for two people with tools – without restriction throughout its entire working envelope. The dual pantograph boom design enables working flush with walls and the drive train has a three-speed system which ensures it reaches the work area quickly.

Essex-based MBS Access was the world’s first customer for the Hinowa Lightlift 26.14 Performance IIIS, which it purchased from APS, the official UK distributor for Hinowa’s full range of tracked access platforms, dumpers and compact plant.
