SHOW REVIEW

“AND THE WINNER IS...”

No doubt one of the most hotly anticipated events at ISSA/Interclean was the Amsterdam Innovation Awards. Aimed as a celebration of some of the most revolutionary new products and services available in the cleaning market today, the awards ceremony, which took place on the first day of the show in the RAI’s brand new Amtrium, was the talk of the show floor.

Covering three categories – Machines, Accessories and Components, Equipment/Tools for Cleaning, Care and Safety, and Management, Training Solutions and Related Products – this year’s awards received a record total of 110 entries, creating a particularly difficult job for the Awards Jury, made up of representatives from cleaning publications across the globe, to narrow it down to the nine eventual finalists.

The Awards Ceremony itself drew a large crowd of eager spectators to the Amtrium, and was also streamed live on the other side of the RAI in the InnovationLAB, for those that weren’t able to make it to the ceremony itself. Dutch TV presenter Pernille La Lau acted as host for the event, alongside Michelle Marshall, Chief Editor of the European Cleaning Journal and Chair of the Jury.

The first of the three categories to be announced was Machines,

Accessories and Components, and the three nominees were the Robot RA 660 NAVI from Cleanfix, the BRC 40/22 C from Kärcher and the TASKI Swingobot 755 from Diversey Care. A loud cheer erupted from the Amtrium as the Cleanfix Robot RA 660 NAVI was announced as the winner.

As the Cleanfix team collected their award, Michelle explained the reasoning behind their decision. She said: “The jury voted the Cleanfix robot as the winner because the company has worked closely with users over many years to develop a machine that is now in use across Europe. The jury was particularly impressed with its navigation system, its efficiency in mapping rooms, and its ease of use for the operator. It’s a robotic cleaning machine ready for the real world.”

The win was greeted with delight not only from Cleanfix, but also their UK

partners, ICE. And Darren Marston, Chairman of ICE, believes that the win was something of an upset. He said: “I think it was a coup, absolutely, it was a huge surprise for me personally. But I think it demonstrated the credibility of this judging panel, which is excellent. The work that Michelle and her team went through, and how they described what they saw as the benefits, really proved that they’d gone through a thorough process.

“The development of the machine has been very much a slow burner over the last five years, but that’s a strength in itself, in that we have that track record of trialling, testing and frankly making robotics fail in the field so that we can learn from it. So we now believe we have a very stable and credible product offering.”

Next up was the Equipment/Tools for Cleaning, Care and Safety category,
