Perfect for parents!

Entertaining your kids over the summer months can be a tricky business….which is why Island Arts Centre’s

Arts Weeks are perfect for parents! The Arts Weeks – which run from 9.30am-4.30pm Monday to Friday –

are designed for young people aged between four and 16 years of age and provide the opportunity for them to join like-minded creative kids to create, design and put their ideas into action in group or solo projects. The classes are grouped into small, appropriate age

bands and are designed in such a way that no two days are the same! islandartscentre.com

Perfect pastime in Portaferry Nestled on the shores of Strangford Lough marine nature reserve sits Northern Ireland’s only aquatic attraction, Exploris. The Exploris journey begins at the Touch Tank, where kids can touch a spiky sea urchin, stroke a stingray or tickle the belly of a small shark as they truly get ‘hands on’ with nature. The Aquarium's cutest and most important calling card, however, is

the Seal Sanctuary, where sick or orphaned seal pups are rehabilitated and then released back into the wild. Since 1989, Exploris has returned hundreds of seals to their natural habitat. The nature of rehabilitation means there will be times when there are no seals 'in residence' so, if your kids are particularly interested in seeing seals, it’s a good idea to call in advance to avoid disappointment. Since its redevelopment, Exploris not only boasts exciting sea life

attractions, but is now home to a fantastic reptile section, where kids can experience the powerful presence of Exploris’ resident African Nile crocodile and reticulated python, as well as Madagascan geckos, corn snakes and more. The centre also recently welcomed the birth of a small-clawed Asian otter pup, which has brought a new and exciting element to the attraction. While Exploris is a fun day out, it’s also educational! Throughout

the centre, experienced guides are always on hand to talk kids through Exploris' many exhibits and answer all of their questions. There are also new, educational, animated information panels displaying historic, cultural and topographic information, as well as a kids’ ocean pollution zone and soft play area. explorisni.com
