Industry Training Takes Centre Stage About ISPE
The Institute of Swimming Pool Engineers was set up in 1978 to establish an organisation for the individual swimming pool engineer (no corporate membership) to:
• Foster a professional approach to the design, installation and maintenance of swimming pools, enclosures and all ancillary equipment;
• Give recognition to technical skill and ability;
• Engage in the education and training of persons within all sectors of the swimming pool industry;
• Promote unrestricted co-operation and liaison between all persons actively involved in the industry and its allied professions and trades;
• Provide opportunities for association and
interchange of thought and experience amongst the members and their colleagues.
ABOVE: ISPE delivered a comprehensive programme of seminars at SPATEX earlier this year.
The early part of 2017 saw the successful launch of the ISPE Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Scheme at SPATEX. The scheme is open to all ISPE and SPATA
members, although individuals do not have to be a member of either organisation to enrol. The scheme is free to all for around 18 months, after which time there will be a nominal annual registration fee - which will be reduced for ISPE and SPATA members.

Those who sign up each receive a branded ring binder, which contains an Activity Log where the individual may record their training activity. The idea is to provide a folder in which attendance certifi cates and evidence the training activity of the participant may be stored, all together in one place. Individuals can identify their training requirement or targets and set out to achieve them, recording their progress as they go. Needless to say, with the Institute handing out free CPD folders we were very busy for the whole of the three days of SPATEX!
FREE TRAINING The ISPE has, over the last year or so, instigated the industry-supported free CPD training days and the latest programme being offered by Certikin, CPC and Pollet Pool Group may be found under ‘Latest News’ on the ISPE website. This training is open to all, but is particularly
useful for those who have registered on the ISPE CPD Scheme, as certifi cates of attendance are provided by the participating companies, indicating either four or eight CPD points, according to the duration of the day’s training. For more information or to enrol onto the scheme and receive your free CPD activity folder please email
ross@ispe.co.uk and we’ll email a registration form to get you started.
GREAT SUCCESS The ISPE Workshops at SPATEX were once again a great success with nearly 500 delegates in attendance over the three days. We would like to sincerely thank all the speakers who gave up their time to participate in the 2017 programme. Away from SPATEX, the Institute presented a ‘Back-to-Basics’ Revision seminar in late- February and judging from the excellent feedback we received after the event, this seminar will become an annual fi xture, subject to future demand. We hope all those who were able to attend will benefi t and we look forward to the ISPE presentations later in the year where we will congratulate all the successful ISPE students. More details to follow soon. For details of the ISPE and our activities, including membership, the Home Study Course, publications, ISPE-endorsed training, seminars, workshops and the new CPD scheme, please see the ISPE website at
