Legacy Pool Gets Royal Approval


A new Olympic Legacy 50m swimming pool at a private boarding school in Devon has been officially opened by HRH The Princess Royal. The pool at Mount Kelly in Tavistock was built in partnership with Sport England through National Lottery funding. HRH The Princess Royal was treated to a swimming display by local primary school children and members of the Mount Kelly swim squad before unveiling a commemorative plaque. Mount Kelly in Tavistock has a long tradition of excellence in swimming and boasts 72 international swimmers, 17 Olympians and six Paralympians amongst its alumni, and has one Olympian currently at the School. Former Mount Kelly pupil Sharron Davies MBE also attended the opening and commented: “This is a fantastic boost for swimming across the whole of the UK. Mount Kelly has been at the heart of performance swimming for four decades and was the launch pad for my own International career.


“It is inspirational to see so many young athletes working hard to

achieve their goals and it is fantastic that this facility will to be able to assist in producing the next generation of Olympic and Paralympic Champions.”


State-Of-The-Art Leisure Facility Opens


February saw the official opening of the brand new Go! Active at The Arc leisure facility in Clowne, Derbyshire.


The £4million centre boasts a 25m swimming pool, a children’s


pool and flume, a Play Kingdom, village changing rooms, a changing places accessible changing facility and a thermal suite complete with steam room, sauna, ice fountain and snail shower. The preview weekend saw more than 6,000 visitors pass through the doors, and the current membership stands at more than 3,100 just a couple of weeks after opening, with numbers continuing to grow.

The facility is owned and operated by Bolsover District Council, in partnership with Strategic Leisure Development (SLD) partner Pulse. The Pulse Group was appointed as the council’s SLD partner in 2015 and has been responsible for all aspects of the project, including the design and build, supplying and installing new gym equipment and assisting with sales and marketing. “We are delighted to have opened this fantastic facility, following a successful working partnership with Bolsover District Council,” says Chris Johnson, Managing Director for Pulse. “Go! Active is truly a leisure facility fit for the whole community and we are thrilled to see so many people walking through the doors already.”
