contractor should try and encourage the customer to install a deck level pool where the surface circulation is far better.” Tim adds: “If the recirculation of the pool water is not in accordance with the standard, there is a health risk to the public, because of either the presence of infectious bacteria or pockets with a very high chlorine content.”
WATER QUALITY As water features, wave machines, flumes and splash pads raise the fun factor in swimming pools, traditional methods of disinfecting water with chlorine, cause problems for operators and customers alike. Higher water temperatures and increased turbulence in leisure pools require increased dosages of chlorine, leading to pool users complaining of burning eyes, red or itchy skin and an over powering chlorine smell throughout the facility. In some extreme cases the fabric of the building has been attacked through corrosive condensation. Center Parcs demand the very best in water quality for their aquatic facilities and have utilised atg UV Technology for many years. Working with Neuman Aqua, atg UV were selected to provide 14 Wafer (WF) UV systems to the £11m Subtropical Swimming Paradise project at Longleat Forest in Wiltshire.
At around a third of the size of comparative UV systems and with significantly reduced maintenance space, the WF series is easy to install or retrofit into the tightest of plant rooms without compromising on performance. Currently being installed into 14 areas of the new development, these state of the art UV systems are set to eliminate problem chloramines and protect bathers against itchy skin, red burning eyes and overpowering smells associated with alternative chemical methods.
KEEP IT FRESH
“From our perspective as a facilities provider, the biggest challenge is keeping it fresh and offering something unique. We want to give customers a story to tell when they get back from their holiday, so staying new and innovative while getting the basics right too is of utmost importance,” comments Simon Smith, Managing Director of World Leisure UK. “A holiday park needs to be memorable and give customers a reason

to keep coming back for more. A basic pool offering is no longer up to the job, but a great pool offering can really make a holiday.” World Leisure UK provides a complete range of design, technical and installation services in the water leisure industry. Says Simon: “As well as keeping all the customers happy, a holiday park pool should also be visually appealing with as many memorable features as possible. A great water feature experience, such as an interactive themed GRP feature or a stainless steel neck massager and fountain installed around a super spa, adds a further element of fun with enhanced aesthetic appeal. An aqua- deck children’s water-play structure is an absolute must, while the perfect holiday park pool would also have a spiralling water flume and wave facility as a minimum. “That said, it’s worth remembering it’s not all about the kids
though. Providing a separate area for adults interested in getting a few quiet lengths in will ensure everyone is happy.”
