CHAMBER CAREER FAIR IS A SUCCESS

Dozens of businesses have taken part in our first Your Future Careers Fairs for 11 to 18-year- olds.

Northamptonshire Chamber of

Commerce is running the events to help county businesses address difficulties with recruitment. The first events took place at

Weston Favell Academy, Montsaye Academy and Campion School and were supported by a variety of businesses that offered practical activities for the students to take part in, including camera work, marketing exercises and virtual reality expeditions. Northamptonshire Chamber head of

Those who took part included Charlotte Sykes,

operations Tracey Branson said: “Our members tell us that the number one issue that they continue to be constrained by is skills shortages and recruitment difficulties. “We’re taking steps to address the skills

agenda by delivering these Careers Fairs which provide students with interactions with employers whilst providing them with employability skills, such as interview techniques and CV writing.”

“The students engaged in the

workshops and said that they felt more confident about their CVs.” Mat Hyman, of J motion Video Productions, took part in the fair

at Montsaye Academy. He added: “The students

enjoyed the insight we gave them into video production.

“I would highly recommend taking part

to other businesses.” There will be a careers fair for students from a

group of Kettering schools at Wicksteed Park on 26 April and Northampton High School for Girls will host an event on 21 July.

Businesses that want further information about exhibiting at the fairs should contact Northamptonshire Chamber policy executive Simon Dishman on 01604 490490 or at policy@northants-chamber.co.uk

Commerce head of operations Tracey Branson said: “Winning a Chamber Business Award is a brilliant way for businesses to increase awareness of their products and services. “We hope lots of our members will enter

the 2017 awards so they can be in with a chance of winning and receive the recognition they so richly deserve.” Companies can enter seven categories

covering exporting, small business, people development, technology, high-growth, customer service and partnerships with the education sector. Entrants do not have to be a Chamber member, but as Northamptonshire Chamber is part of the BCC’s accredited Chamber network, member companies are eligible to enter for free. Non-members are required to pay an entry fee. Entries opened on Monday 13 March and close on Friday 30 June.
