The Chamber’s INTERNATIONAL TRADE TEAM will help you navigate your way through all of the regulatory procedures and documents that you’ll need for successful international trading

A waste management consultant from Northamptonshire has taken part in an EU Expert Mission to Chile. Dr Waleed Montasser was invited on the mission by Chile’s Ministry of

Environment and Adapt Chile - an NGO dedicated to sustainable development. The week of activities concerned integrated waste management and

attaining a circular economy and included field visits, a series of meetings and a workshop. During the visit, Dr Montasser and other EU experts worked with technical teams from the Chilean Network of Municipalities for Climate Action, and representatives from regional and national Government agencies from the Environmental and Energy sectors. Dr Montasser, who is director of Northampton-based IREEMS which

provides consultancy services in waste management, resource efficiency and circular economy, said: “Waste Management in Chile is a growing matter. It is not easy to deal with municipal solid waste (MSW). “We gave examples of successes and challenges faced by the UK authorities dealing with MSW and how to achieve high recycling rates. “IREEMS shared its experience of current waste management technologies

in the UK, the business model of dealing with MSW as well as communication methods and tools to interact with residents and stakeholders.”

All the EU experts involved in the Mission to Chile The workshop encouraged the Chilean participants to look at new ideas

and they learned about EU policy and solutions. IREEMS wrote the mission report to the EU with recommendations and

follow-up activities. These are currently under discussion with the EU and local partners in Chile.
