ISSUE SPOTLIGHT: HEALTH & SAFETY
ISSUESPOTLIGHT MEET THE STANDARDS
it is important for every business to have the correct HEALTH & SAFETY measures in place
BE AWARE OF
With accreditation and compliance becoming increasingly important, businesses want a training provider that ticks all the boxes when it comes to meeting legal requirements. Changes to the HSE Approved
Code of Practice (L117) in 2013 means training on forklift trucks and mechanical handling equipment has to be delivered by a suitably qualified instructor – and Phoenix Training in Wellingborough ensures it can fill that role. At Phoenix Training, all
instruction on fork lift trucks and mechanical handling equipment is accredited by ITSSAR, giving clients peace of mind that their operators
are suitably trained and fully compliant to national standards. Each of the accrediting bodies
now has in place their own operator registration scheme, meaning that training delivered by an accredited provider can be easily validated. Managing director Emma Williams
said: “We can deliver fully accredited training so that clients can be secure in the knowledge that their employees will meet the accrediting body’s requirements once they have completed their training.”

FAKE EXPERTS A consultancy that provides fire risk assessments has warned businesses about the dangers of fake fire safety experts. Philip Martin, proprietor of Martin
Fire Risk Management, said: “There is a small but persistent group of fake experts selling everything from extinguisher maintenance to fire risk assessments. If they get it wrong the consequences of a fire could be devastating, and the victim could be prosecuted for failing to ‘appoint competent persons to assist’. So, look for providers who are approved under one of the many industry schemes. For example, British Approvals for Fire Equipment (BAFE) administer several schemes, such as SP101 for extinguisher maintainers.”
