Dynamic Business of the Year

A category focusing on businesses demonstrating special ambition and drive to seize opportunities in their marketplace.

Winner: Xtrac

In 2015 this 100% employee-owned organisation undertook a management buyout to strengthen its management team. This was part of a long-term Xtrac succession plan that has encouraged promotion through the ranks – from successful apprenticeship and graduate schemes all the way to the new MD.

The judging panel’s view

Of particularly interest for the judges was how award-nominated companies handled people management, development of new products, merger and acquisition strategies, capitalisation of new funding, and technological and commercial opportunities.

Announcing the winner, Robin Barnes, regional director, Thames Valley for NatWest, revealed: “This business consistently outperforms its rivals through investment in people and technology, and its dynamic growth has seen turnover rise significantly, with 80% of revenues generated through exports.”

What makes the winner dynamic?

“By continually investing in our people and their skills, it really helps us to develop our technology, machinery, and products. It also allows us to react quickly to changes in our marketplace – now 90% motorsport, 10% advanced automotive. A few years ago it was 100% motorsport, but we have now moved into highly- advanced hybrid and electric vehicles as well – a new market that is growing and needing high-technology solutions,” explained MD Adrian Moore.

A dynamic strategic market move with great opportunity for a company at the forefront of its specialism – plus the 2016 Thames Valley Business Magazine Awards winning management team, acclaimed earlier in the evening.
