Best Company to Work For Award

Recognising companies that are dedicated to making their working environments welcoming and inclusive.

Winner: Peter Brett Associates

A Reading-based independent practice of engineers, planners, scientists and economists delivering major development and infrastructure projects.

The judges’ view Dan Rogers, Thames Valley director of recruitment specialists Hays, explained why PBA impressed the judges: “This company’s core value is trust, and it places great emphasis on ensuring everyone develops along the path that is right for them. Its people are independent thinkers.”

Words from the award-winner

Claudia Desai, director of people and change, explained that PBA is a partnership, not a corporate or one-size-fits-all company. “Our partners sit in our open-plan offices with other staff, can mentor and work closely with them on projects and community involvements. We strive very hard to recognise everyone’s individual talents.”

With over 700 staff, PBA prides itself on its ‘family’ environment and collaborative approach to work. “We recruit from apprentices to graduates, all our offices are different, but everyone seems to like our culture.”

Taking second place

The NAV People – Judges’ view: It really shone as a company where employees love to be at work. Its offices are a dynamic, buzzing hive of activity, with lots of visual evidence of a collaborative, passionate workforce. Though small, they have invested in getting the best from their people, and have grown their multi-cultural workforce.

And in third

Judges’ view: Financial software provider Fiscal is impressive, going above and beyond for its staff, including commitment to wellbeing, training and development. Their new office workspace has obviously been designed with staff in mind and brings to life cultural values. Not surprisingly, staff retention is excellent.

Highly commended

CV-Library – Judges’ view: Run like a family business, everyone at online job- board creator CV-Library looks out for each other and has a strong work-hard, play-hard ethic. The culture is welcoming; team spirit and morale is high. The company aims to make its staff the best they can be.

Foundation SP – Judges’ view: A contemporary and dynamic technology solutions provider, FSP drives exciting transformations helping clients become more engaged and responsive. At the heart of FSP is trust and authenticity. Its culture and core values – family, success, passion – are integral to everything it does.

Roc Search – An Investors in People ‘Gold’ employer, specialist technology and engineering recruiter, Roc Search was 7th in The Sunday Times 2016 ‘Top 100 Best Small Companies to Work For’.
