Forthcoming Events

By Keith Nicol Festive Focus

Less than two weeks until Christmas and that shopping frenzy time of year is upon us. Gone are Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which seemed to stretch out for more than a day, similar to Happy Hour seeming to always last until proper drinking time kicks in.

The first holiday of the December season has passed and now the focus is on Christmas, the New Year and those three Magic Kings.

The Nativity

scene is also open 24-hours a day, and is especially attractive in the evening as many of the exhibits have lights and working models. Bring your camera to capture the fantastic models

of the Bethlehem scene plus a few local references to Torrevieja landmarks, thrown in to add a special touch.

Unfortunately, one of the most popular events in Torrevieja’s International Calendar, the XIV edition of Carols on the Square has been cancelled this year. It was due to take place, but for whatever reason or excuse that the new Government will come up with, the event will not take place unless they have a change of heart. However, the International Mass in the Inmaculada Church should still be going ahead.

There are a multitude of events for your festive diary taking place at Torrevieja Christian Fellowship, located at Avenida de las Cortes Valencianas 68, Torrevieja 03183. Their Carols At Christmas takes place on Wednesday 14th December at 7pm with a collection taken on behalf of Contra Cancer. On Sunday 18th December at 10.30am there will be a TCF Carol Service followed by mince pies and that evening at 5pm: ‘Songs for Christmas’ on stage at Zenia Boulevard. Their Christmas Day Service is at 10.30am. They do not have a service on New Year’s Day.

During the winter the The Rojales Craft Market at the Cuevas del Rodeo in Rojales is open on the 1st Sunday of each month in the morning from 11am to 2pm. It’s is a fun place to visit if you are looking for a small gift or piece of art or decoration. Local artists put their work on display along with other craft works to browse and enjoy. Also on the 1st Sunday of each month is the Ace Cafe Classic Car event, on the street outside La Torre Hotel in Los Montesinos from 11am to 1pm. Admission is free.

Another fun and unusual event for kids of all ages is the Torrellano Miniature Steam Train. It is run by the friends of the railways association and so is normally only open on Saturdays between 4pm and 8pm with Miniature Train Rides during February and March on the 2nd Sunday from 10.30am to 1.30pm.
