Norwegian Jade by Michael Walter Smith.
Norwegian Cruise Line's "Norwegian Jade" arrived in Cartagena from Barcelona on 31st October and departed early evening to Malaga, Funchal (Madeira) then across the Atlantic to Tampa (Florida).
During October, November and December a number of cruise liners depart from the Mediterranean for re- positioning on the Eastern seaboard of the USA and Caribbean, returning to European waters in April / May.
For the remainder of this year and first quarter of 2017, "Jade" is based in Tampa operating 7 day Western Caribbean cruises calling into Mexico (2 ports), Honduras and Belize before returning across the Atlantic to European waters in mid April. "Jade" is then scheduled to commence with a Norwegian Fjords cruise from Southampton to be followed, also from Southampton, interestingly on a round UK cruise, including Irish ports of call, to Edinburgh, and then returning to Southampton.
This 2402 passenger capacity vessel, epitomises NCL's 'Free Style' mantra. The goal is to create an ambience on board cruising that abandons traditional formalities. All meals are open seating, the choice of cuisine goes from a Steakhouse and Tepannyaki to French / Italian tapas, Sushi, Buffet and a 24-hour Cafe, complete with traditional English breakfast.
The cost of the cruise includes meals in the main restaurant, but there is the option of offering speciality restaurants on-board with a range of dining options at a reasonable additional cost. There are often 'special deals' including 'inclusive drink packages' and as mentioned previously, it's as well to check beforehand with your local travel agent prior to booking.
Earlier this year I cruised on Norwegian Cruise Line's "Norwegian Epic", always dining in the main restaurant where the food was of a very high standard. The on-board entertainment throughout the vessel was excellent and overall the cruise was extremely enjoyable with friendly staff throughout.
N.C.L's dress code overall is quite relaxed in general, and with an older demographic, plenty of suit coats, dress shirts and dresses on display around dinnertime. On 'at sea' days this takes on even more of a formal demeanour.
