tunities, all to their great advantage. Over the past decades, the commercial fitness industry has matured remarkably due


primarily to the entrepreneurial and pioneering spirit of many individuals. But today, the need to work together for common interests has emerged as a critical business develop- ment tool for future success. Owner/manager group meetings of like minded operators have continually stressed the need for a collective organization to protect and promote the Canadian fitness industry. The emergence of canfitpro supports this effort, as does the Fitness Industry Council


of Canada (FIC) with the leadership of David Hardy and a key group of entrepreneurs. FIC believes in the power of partnership—including significant financial support from GoodLife Fitness and key suppliers to our industry—and, as a result, we have a more promising future. Today’s issues include music licensing, professional qualification, fair competition, op-


erating standards, government consumer protection legislation, staff and management training, consumer marketing that supports the industry’s public image, and service offerings. We welcome input from our readers on these issues and promise our continued


support.
