Tips for Keeping Your Indoor Cycles in Shape 3. Squeaky and noisy bikes typically

mean there is metal on metal contact. The contact in question could just need lubri- cation, or it could be a sign of imminent equipment failure and be putting the safety of the rider in jeopardy. Don’t expect noises to go away on their own. Have a qualified technician inspect and address them at their next service visit.

4. Carry out preventative maintenance 1. Make sure the adjustable feet on the

bottom of your bikes are free to move (we’ve all seen a towel under a corner of an indoor bike). This is essential to keeping your bikes level and is doubly important if you move your fleet and adjustments are frequently required. Also, some virtual watt measurement systems rely on stable bikes, and wobbling will result in errone- ous watt measurement.

2. Riders should wipe down their bikes

after every workout. As well, once a week a staff member should use a cleaner/ polisher to clean and protect the entire fleet. Doing this makes the bikes look great, the polish will repel sweat and pre- vent it from pooling on the bike, and the polish makes wiping off sweat a breeze post-ride.

after about every 75 to 100 hours of use. Regular maintenance keeps small issues from becoming bigger and more-expensive issues that could result in an out-of-service bike or cause a rider injury. Pedals, for exam- ple, can only take so much abuse and need to be regularly inspected by a technician.

5. Number your bikes to help you track

issues and have them efficiently addressed by your technician. Use a maintenance tracking system so your technician can read about the issue, fix it and then sign it off as a completed item.
