Business positivity in the face of Brexit
Business has faced some challenging conditions in the last few months, with the fall in the value of sterling and uncertainty caused as a result of the EU Referendum. In the Chamber Opinion piece on page 14 we cover the results of the Chamber’s Quarterly Economic Survey for Q3 2016, the first since the referendum, and discuss the change in economic conditions that businesses in the county are facing. Despite these challenging conditions there are still a number of positive stories and
developments amongst the Chamber membership that should be celebrated. This includes the Mayflower Autonomous Ship, an exciting project being devised to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower, the tenth anniversary of Drake Circus shopping centre and the launch of the South West’s newest spa Gaia Spa at Boringdon Hall Hotel, which has recently been crowned the Sunday Times Best British Spa Hotel. Devon has a lot to celebrate and the Chamber will continue to lobby to support business growth and success. This November, as part of Export Week, the Chamber will be hosting its first Export
Conference. Aiming to enable businesses to capitalise on the rise in interest in exports resulting from the fall in the value of the pound, the Chamber’s export conference will showcase a range of case studies and advice. We hope that you’ll be able to join us on Friday 11 November at Exeter Racecourse. Full details can be found on the Chamber website
