First steps for aspiring Fashion Designer
After I left Mayfield, I transferred to a fashion school, Modeschule Hallein, in Austria where I am studying for my A‐Levels and undertaking an apprenticeship to become a tailoress.
I have been here for two years and this year’s project was to design a traditional dress, a "Dirndl", for the city that my school is in. My class all designed and sewed the dresses, ready to show them to a jury, who chose 4 dresses to be put forward for the internet voting. I was among the 4 who made it through to the next round and people were able to vote for 2 weeks on the internet.
I was always in second place and there was a large gap between myself and the person in the lead. However, in the end, my design attracted a lot of interest and I was able to win the competition by over 250 votes. I received over 3000 votes and I was the only one with votes from China. This would not have been possible if I had not been to Mayfield. A reporter asked me where all these votes came from, and so I told him about Mayfield and he was amazed that I got so much international support.
Now my dress will be produced as the official garb of Hallein, the city where I study. On the 28th
April
there was a fashion show, where my dress was presented for the first time. It will be available on sale in shops from July.
I am so excited to see my own design in the stores. It is an amazing opportunity and it helps me to get a step closer to my dream of becoming a fashion designer.
