Polly Paulusma (née Riley‐Smith, Class of 1993)

In February 2016, Polly was worried about her 9‐year‐old daughter Valentine a.k.a. “Vee”, who was drinking pints and pints of water, and eating like a horse, yet losing weight; Vee seemed emotional and lethargic; she smelt really strange. At Addenbrookes, the hospital in Cambridge, Vee received the most wonderful care right from the get‐go; during three days in hospital, her diagnosis of type 1 diabetes was confirmed and the family's journey began.

Vee is an inspiration to Polly and her whole family. She does her own injections (4‐6 daily) and for the most part she faces the future with a bravery and lack of self‐pity others can only dream of. But on some days she's frightened about what it means for her future; how it will impact on her teenage years; why she's been limited like this when everyone else around her can carry on like normal.

That's why Polly is running. And she’s not running alone ‐ her dog Charlie is training with her. They want to help researchers find a cure for this bizarre condition which comes on without warning and for which there is no known reason or trigger. Polly would love to be able to tell Vee that she doesn't have to worry about it any more. So she and Charlie are doing the "couch to 10k" running plan together, and they've signed up to run their first ever 10k run in Grantchester in October. Polly has opened a JustGiving page to which she is posting regular updates, and would love you to follow her progress, encourage her along, and help her raise much‐needed funds for JDRF (Junior Diabetes Research Forum) scientists so they help Vee, and all children with type 1. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Polly‐runs‐for

Helen Ramagge (née Campbell, Class of 1982)

Class of 1982 Italian adventure October 2016 ‐ sponsored walk.

A group of us are attempting a 100km walk in Tuscany this autumn to raise funds for a wonderful charity called Aiaba. http://www.aiaba.it

Lizzie Oseman (néeMarsh, Class of 1998) This is Lizzie and Ballyell Turbo who competes in Heavy Weight Show Cob classes. He is also a dab hand/hoof at side saddle and has been Champion Cob at The Royal International Horse Show, Hickstead (pictured) for the past two years.

Pictured is Lizzie's son, Toby (4) showing his 27 inch miniature Shetland pony "Scooby". The pair have captured the hearts of many!! Toby also enjoys riding Scooby but he is very naughty doing impromptu rodeo and also likes to roll, sending his jockey flying so Toby prefers to stay on foot during competitions!

Aiaba is a special school in Florence for children with autism. Their future aim is to provide long term residential care for the young people as they grow up to become adults and still need support. This is going to be a major task to finance. We would very much like to raise funds for this worthy cause.

Indira (néeGraffius, Class of 1982) and Piero's middle boy is 21 now and he has been all the way through Aiaba and he now needs the school more than ever - especially the residential facility yet to exist. Indira and Piero live near to a wonderful Pilgrims' walk in Tuscany called the Via Francigena (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Via_Francigena) which is split into daily sections. We are booked into accommodation along the route for 4 days (17th - 20th Oct). We aim to walk from San Miniato to Siena - approx 100km. Indira has purchased 12 pilgrim's passports for our group. Every pilgrim needs a passport stamped as evidence of the journey.

The Via Francigena starts at Canterbury and goes all the way to Rome. If any one would like to start the walk with us we would be happy to see you and welcome your support. We are planning to walk the section from Canterbury to Dover (20 miles) on Saturday 1st October.

Please phone Helen Ramagge for more details if you are interested in joining the pilgrims on their first stretch. 01737 226799.
