Classes of 1940s, 1950s and 1960s
Cornelian Cream Tea In July, Year 9 welcomed back Old Cornelians who had been at School in the 1940s, 50s and 60s. The girls entertained their fellow Cornelians over afternoon tea in the Courtyard and decades of Mayfield life were compared whilst enjoying a sumptuous spread – very different to the memories of school meals from days gone by! One Year 9 commented, “Hearing how most of their year are all in touch and are still like a little family really struck me - I don't believe that's changed”.
Class of 1996
'We celebrated our 20 year reunion in style with canapes and drinks in a loft bar in Knightsbridge. It was a fun evening, seeing lots of faces from 20 years ago. About 20 or so of us came. We had Harriet Totty (née Collins), Helen (née Clarke), Isabella Z, Joan (née Gilbey), Ginny Ponsford, Maureen Cleaver (née Lynch), Alison Tansley (née Doran), Mary J Krobo, Jo Weston, Adelaide Lee (née Evans), Charlotte (née Williams), Albertine (née Roberts), Katie (née Dilger), Caroline Libby (née Tremlett), Juliana Wood (née Leonard), Becky Flanagan, Claire Brown and myself Leni Donaldson (née Hoogewerf). Lots of catching up was had and it was interesting to see what everyone had been up to - it just wasn't long enough though as in typical Mayfield style we probably could have gone on and on chatting!!'
Class of 2006 Class of 2006 had a reunion in London 12th June
2016. It was so wonderful to see all the girls after 10 years. Thank you Katie de Klee, Head Girl, for organising.
Here’s to the next one!
Tea was followed by tours of the School and Old Cornelians were impressed by the facilities and opportunities available to the girls today and by the mature, friendly, and intelligent self-assurance of their young companions.
The afternoon was a thoroughly enjoyable trip down memory lane for all involved, as summed up by year 9 thus, “I found it very interesting to hear about the Old Cornelians past memories of Mayfield, and I was taken aback when I saw two best friends reunited. I look forward to being able to celebrate being an Old Cornelian in years to come”.
