DearOldCornelians I

n reflecting on the academic year that has passed we are absolutely delighted that it has been filled, once again, with increased interaction with Old Cornelians. In forging close ties with our alumnae body we

endeavour to create a strong, supportive network of Cornelians across the globe, a group of women all sharing one common bond ‐ a Holy Child education. We are thrilled to have such a thriving and supportive network with reciprocal benefits for alumnae and the School. Current girls and Old Cornelians alike have benefitted from the continued philanthropy of our alumnae and it is our intention to expand and further enable and support this exchange of information, contacts and benevolence.

The original purpose of the Old Cornelians, founded in 1913 by Reverend Mother Mary Francis (Tolhurst) was, “to unite all former Mayfield girls and bring them into closer touch with their Alma Mater, so that, thus united they may become a strong power for good in the world”. We bear witness to the existence of this ‘strong power for good’ every day, through our interaction with our alumnae body, of whom we are justifiably proud.

The channels of information processing have developed and transformed somewhat over the years and yet at their core, they have the same aims, to increase “the bond of union between Mayfield and its children past and present by keeping the past informed of the doings of the present, by telling the present more about the past and by supplying a medium for the interchange of ideas and discussions of subjects of common interest”. We always welcome any input from alumnae and we strive to ensure Old Cornelians are not just the past of the School, but also continue to help shape the Mayfield of today and indeed tomorrow.

Until recently, we have sent out a bi-annual magazine to Old Cornelians. Communications, as with everything, have evolved and we now communicate regularly with OCs through social media, email and our website. As such the Old Cornelian magazine will become an annual publication, however we will be putting measures in place to ensure that those who do not have a digital presence will be as connected to the School as their peers.

Our annual reunion has also been subject to change this year and will take place on 25th September 2016. We hope to see as many of you here as can attend and until then wish you all a very peaceful and happy Summer.
