OC OBITUARIES
Loulou Akamaguna (Class of 2009) There is no doubt that Loulou was a rare and special person. Anyone who knew her would tell you she cared more about others than she ever did herself. She carried everyone's burdens including her own by default. She was the peacemaker and the voice of reason whenever it was needed. On the surface, Loulou's kind, sensitive and gentle nature shone through. She had an air that made you feel instantly at ease when you were around her. For those who were lucky to know her fully, my sister was incredibly funny. The
comedian of the family. She could easily keep us all laughing for hours till our sides hurt. To me personally, she wasn't just my big sister, but my best friend and adviser. There is no one that could put a smile on my face as easily as she could.
Loulou loved watching comedies, discovering new restaurants, going to the theatre, cooking and spending time with family and friends. To most, it goes without saying that she was also very clever and succeeded in anything she put her mind to. Loulou left us all suddenly and unexpectedly on the 31st July 2015, leaving a void in all the hearts of those who knew her. She is survived by her parents, Anthony Akamaguna and Camille Smith; her sisters, Adalena and Tracey; her brother, Kevin, her grandmother, Iris Smith and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Sleep peacefully Loulou, we love and miss you dearly. Tracey Akamaguna (Class of 2011)
Anne Hoath (née Powell‐Williams, Class of 1937) Anne was born in November 1920 and when her family moved to Five Ashes in the 1930s she was sent to Mayfield. Later she went to Battersea Polytechnic to undertake a Domestic Science course, and then she joined the WRNS. In 1942 she married Peter, then an engineer Lieutenant.
Anne raised 3 boys and 1 girl (Moira also an Old Cornelian, Class of 1967) and all four children became engineers (Anne considered herself a domestic engineer). When Peter retired from the Navy she became a District Councillor, Chairman of Leisure and Culture and then Housing and eventually Mayor. Peter died in 2007 and Anne spent the last 2 years in a care home in Portsmouth. Anne’s love and support was uncomplicated, unselfish and utterly uncompromising. Wellington's tribute to his troops catches the essence of her, "She may not frighten the enemy but my god she frightens me", she made you feel that with her on your side there were no unsolvable problems and no battles which could not be won.
Anne died on the 31st July 2016.
Jean Willett (née Formby, Class of 1952) died at the age of 81 on 30th November 2015. Her brother Fr John Formby died just five days before her, so a wonderful joint funeral for them both took place in London shortly before Christmas. The family were delighted that several Old Cornelians and Sr Jean were able to attend.
Jean was mother to five children - one son, Tom Willett, and four Old Cornelians: Caroline Brown (néeWillett, Class of 1980), Frances MacIntosh (née Willett, Class of 1981), Joanna Kenny (néeWillett, Class of 1983), and Madeline Roberts (néeWillett, class of 1990). She was grandmother of two Old Cornelians: Antonia Brown (2005) and Hannah Brown (2007) and one current pupil, Ellen MacIntosh.
