There are no northern white rhinos left in their war torn home ranges in the wild, having been poached for their horn, which is prized in the east as a traditional Chinese medicine and worth more per kg than gold. Ironically the horn is only keratin, like our nails, and has no proven medicinal value. Sudan was captured from the wild aged 2, in 1975, and taken to safety at the Dvur Kralove Zoo, Czech Republic. Then in 2009, he and three others were moved to The Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya, where it was hoped that the climate and rich grasslands would provide favourable breeding conditions but sadly it was in vain, which is why vets are

now urgently pursuing IVF and stem cell methods.

Camilla had a passion for sculpture from her early teens and after

encouragement from the late Sir Eduardo Paolozzi she decided to pursue sculpting seriously. Exhibited by established galleries since 2000 and bought by private collectors worldwide, having been acquired for a Royal collection, Camilla was elected as an Associate member of the Society of Equestrian Artists and has won awards from the British Sporting Art Trust and the Society of Wildlife Artists. Her work ranges from silver jewellery to her monumental, life size bronze of the Household Cavalry horse Sefton. http://www.camillalemay.com.

The bronze of Sudan and his friend an oxpecker was exhibited at the Mall Galleries, London in June.

Amy Balfour Flowers

When I was at Mayfield,

I spent most of my free time in the art department. Our art

teachers, Mr and Mrs Joy, were heavily influential in encouraging me to pursue my creative interests.

They managed to foster a fun, relaxed and creative environment that felt more like a real art studio than a typical school art room. Their passion was an inspiration and led me to study Illustration at university, and ultimately my early career as an assistant Interior Designer at Sibyl Colefax and John Fowler.

More recently I have set up my own floristry business - ‘Amy Balfour Flowers’. Working from my flat in Battersea, that I share with my husband, Victor, and black Labrador Figgy, I create relaxed, seasonal and natural looking bouquets that can be bought through my website. I primarily deliver to South West London, but I am always happy to travel further afield on request. I also provide flowers for weddings, events and regular contract arrangements, both for homes and local businesses.
