COMMERCIAL PROPERTY CONSULTANCY - FIRM

Sponsored by

Winner: Hughes Ellard

This award again used objective information, collated and checked by category sponsor CoStar. Evaluation by the judges was based on commercial activity across the region during the 12-month period from January to December 2015.

Comprising the four finalists were: • CBRE • Goadsby • Hughes Ellard • Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH)

CBRE is the world’s leading commercial property and real-estate services adviser, providing a comprehensive range of commercial property services, from international strategic advice to the execution of property sales and leasing. The Southampton office team covers an expansive geography from Bournemouth and Poole, the M27 corridor, to parts of West Sussex and Berkshire.

Established in Bournemouth in 1958, Goadsby now has a 28-office network throughout Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire. 2005 saw a major commercial business expansion with dedicated commercial offices in Southampton and Winchester and, more recently, Dorchester. Today, Goadsby

has a £11 million turnover and ranks 26th among UK composite property services providers.

An independent full-service commercial real estate consultancy, Hughes Ellard has offices in Fareham and Southampton. A highly experienced 15-strong professional team is led by MD Gary Jeffries, a major player on the Solent region’s property market for over 25 years, who is also chairman of the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership.

The UK network of LSH includes offices in Southampton, Fareham and Winchester serving Solent region clients. Graham Holland heads up the South Coast offices recognised by Estates Gazette (EGi) over many years for their office and industrial transaction levels as the ‘Most Active Agent in Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire.’

Colin Black of CoStar came to the stage to announce the winner as “a firm that has built a major presence serving the Solent property market.”

All four firms have had strong years in office lettings in the Solent region, he added. But one firm stood out – Hughes Ellard.

Russell Mogridge, director of Hughes Ellard was “incredibly proud” to be part of the

award-wining firm.

“We have a young and dynamic team that works really hard. For the past three years we have won awards for most office transactions in the region and this win complements that run of awards very nicely.

“We have been growing over the post- recessionary years, having spotted and added some really good talent, while developing sectors of the firm. We are very well known for our agency transactional work, but we have also developed areas such as property management, headed up by Tim Pointing, and also our building consultancy side headed by Nick Miles and Mark Cassell. We now see lots of opportunity to grow the different advisory and transactional elements of the firm.”

Key facets of the winning team? “First and foremost we really value the Hughes Ellard team ethic. We have two offices, but we operate as a single team unit.” Mogridge also mentioned talented people with depth of expertise and regional knowledge, plus good internal and client working relationships.

How’s the market? “The Solent corridor has got the right dynamics at the moment because supply is low and demand has been improving since the recession, along with rental and capital growth.”
