Team Canada WOMEN’S MASTERS - Friendship, chemistry
and...surprise clinics?
I can’t believe how fast WUGC 2016 went by. So many hours of preparation, throwing, training, stretching, focusing, studying our playbook…. BOOM! DONE. OVER.
I came back home with the usual PTD (post tournament depression). I was missing London, missing playing ultimate, but most of all, i was missing my teammates. For TCWM, it wasn’t all about physical fitness and abilities. It was also the importance of the Spirit of the game and knowing and respecting your teammates. Chemistry. Which, I think, was a big part of our success.
Every time we had a weekend practice, we used that time to get together and have fun off the field. Dinners, drinks, games, chit chats…. Our captains asked us to be in London a few days before the tournament begins so we can get use to the time change and to practice, of course. But we also use this time to visit the surrounding areas. A simple trip to the grocery store in a country you have never been can be quite an adventure with 12 other girls or when you negotiate the use of soccer fields at an elementary school in exchange of a improvised clinic to 90 kids!! We got to visit the city of St-Albans, its cathedral, the Verulamium park and the rescue of the floating disc, the Waffle House, Ye Olde Fighting Cocks, revealing the hidden talents of our teammates…. Trust me, those memories will forever stay. And hopefully, new friendships as well. #cougarlove
