Edmonton Corporate Challenge 700 new players learn ultimate By Dani Dugan


This spring Edmonton Ultimate


Players Association (EUPA) teamed up with Edmonton Corporate Challenge to introduce Ultimate into the games. Corporate Challenge in an local annual event spanning 16 days with over 175 companies (and over 10,000 players) competing in various sporting events to earn points for through medaling and demonstrating good spirit in various sport and active competition.


As part of our partnership with


Edmonton Corporate Challenge, EUPA provided a large amount of support to ensure that Ultimate was introduced properly and that all players had a positive experience. This included direction on how to adjust traditional Ultimate to a smaller 5-on-5, timed game format that would fit into the Corporate Challenge schedule, as well as providing a simplified version of the rules of Ultimate for new players. Additionally, EUPA volunteers were present during the games to act as “Field Coordinators”, in charge of score and time keeping and available to clarify any rule confusion to keep games moving and spirit strong.

coming out to represent their companies and play some Ultimate. The vast majority of these players were brand new to our sport and eager to learn and improve as a team during their games. We saw strong demonstrations of spirit of the game, smiles all day long, and a lot of interest from players how they could start playing more Ultimate. Edmonton Corporate Challenger organizers were also very impressed by how well the nature of Ultimate fit into their goals of participation, sportsmanship, team building and fun through sport.


In our new July summer league,


EUPA had many Corporate Challenge players join our leagues and are looking forward to more players and more fun with Corporate Challenge next year!
