OBTAINING THE PULSE COUNT If you are using the speedometer signal from the vehicles's ECU you may find the pulse count in the user manual. Or you can connect a pulse counter and drive the vehicle for one mile. This will give you the pulses per mile number.
If you're using a Magnetic Sensor or Hall Effect Sensor you can mount the sensor above say, propshaft bolt heads or driveshaft bolt heads and count the count the number of bolt heads that pass the sensor when you push the car one revolution of the car's wheel in gear. Measure the circumference of a wheel and tyre, divide a mile by the tyre circuference and multiply the result by the number of pulses on one wheel revolution.

1 mile = 160, 934 centimetres. 1 Tyre revolution + 220 centimetres So, 160,934 divided by 220 = 731 wheel revolutions per mile.
Count, for instance, 6 pulses per wheel revolution. (6 bolt heads pass the speedo sensor) Multiply 731 x 6 = 4386
Look up 4386 on the chart (or the nearest number to it) and set the DIP switches accordingly.
SETTING THE DIP SWITCHES When you have a pulse per mile number, refer to the CALIBRATION TABLE CHART-1. Search through the chart pages for your pulse number and set the DIP switches according to the 10 Digit number alongside the pulse number.
EXAMPLE: To set 2911 pulses per mile: Switch setting:

Whenever the switch setting is changed, the meter should be switched OFF and back ON again to make the changes effective.

INSTRUMENT INSTALLATION Ensure vehicle is negative earth. Disconnect vehicle battery.
Get pulse calculation number and set DIP switches
Make wiring connections: WHITE: Only required if you are using a Hall Effect Sensor. Connect this wire to the live fed of the sensor. ECU pulse feed or Magnetic sensor does not require this connection. It can be taped up. GREEN: Connect this wire to the speed signal output from the sensor or ECU. BLACK: Connect to earth - Negative. YELLOW: +12 feed to instrument illumination. Connect this wire to side lights. BLUE: +12 Volt ignition feed to the instrument. Connect this wire to the ignition feed that is live when the ignition is turned on.
RED: + 12 volts. Connect this wire to a permanent 12 volt live supply.
NOTE: If the meter fails to operate correctly try disconnecting and reconnecting the +ve supplies to the meter.
SENSOR INSTALLATION
The speedo sensor transmits a pulse to the speedometer every time a magnet passes through it's detection field. Six magnets are supplied with the sensor but three, four or five can provide sufficient pulses for accurate speed display. The most common place for mounting the magnets is on driveshaft or propshaft bolt heads, secured with strong epoxy adhesive. The North Pole of the magnets (marked with a red line) must be facing the sensor. The sensor probe must then be securely mounted perpendicular to the magnets with a 1 to 2mm gap.
The picture below shows the magnetic speedo sensor mounted in one of the two brackets supplied. The six small magnets are attracted together.
