Welcome to the start of our monthly articles here in Female Focus. Between all of us here at Javea Auto Sales, we have a wealth of knowledge of all things motoring – not least because at heart we are passionate about anything with wheels and an engine.

We are always happy to help you with general queries so please feel free to call in and have a chat with us. Many people may have a pre-conceived opinion of pre-owned vehicle sellers - you will find that we do not fit that stereotype and above all will always offer you a friendly welcome and impartial motoring advice (worst ways you can always have a play with Mikey, the office dog whilst we try and find an answer to your query!) We will kick off this month with a few genuine questions from some of our customers and friends that follow a summer time theme - more to come in August.

Q) Is my car more likely to overheat in the summer and how often should I check the coolant level?

Answer:- Theoretically, every car will have been designed to cope with temperatures far in excess of what we get here on the Costa Blanca so the summer shouldn’t cause you any issues. Having said this, as with all things in life, age will play a large part in the answer! If a car’s cooling system is in tip top condition then it will cope just fine with the summer, if there are any small issues within the cooling system, these are more likely to manifest themselves and cause a problem when the weather is hotter as the cooling system will be working much harder. In terms of how often to check the coolant level, I would suggest that as often as possible would make sense, once a month would be a minimum, and personally I check mine once a week. If you would like us to show you how to check your coolant level properly then please call in and we will happily show you. Don’t forget the coolant will remain VERY HOT for some time after the car has been switched off.

Q) I have heard that it is against the law to drive in flip-flops in Spain. Is this true?

Answer:- This one is often debated in bars and pubs. Roughly translated, the law states the following:- “You have to drive properly avoiding damage to people / things. It is forbidden to drive in a negligent or reckless way.” Therefore driving in any footwear that could potentially cause you to not be in full control of your vehicle would be deemed as negligent and as such you could be fined. I have never tested the theory but I would imagine that driving whilst wearing a pair of boxing gloves would also attract a fine under the same law!

We hope that these help you with your motoring thoughts and please don’t forget that in the summer months we must all be extra careful on our roads. Many tourists here may be driving on Spanish roads for the first time so be patient and give them plenty of space. Finally, NEVER leave your pet unattended in a closed up vehicle or indeed one with the window left slightly open. If you are at all unsure as to what this feels like, try putting a fur coat on and sitting in your car to see just how quickly the temperature becomes unbearable.

Stay safe, have fun and don’t forget to contact us with questions (see advert below) and come and see us when you are ready for your next car.
