Gardener or Landscaper?

I often refer to myself as Lee the gardener to many people as it reminds instantly who they are talking to down the telephone. But a better description is Garden Designer and Landscaper.

I know this is something that makes people a little perplexed but as with many trades there are multiple sections within. As regards garden work, yes we do it and are very good at it, but we don’t tend to make a lot of time for it as we are too busy creating gardens. This is what a landscaper does.

My company specialises in creating gardens in the first place. This may be as a new project or a makeover, with all the work beginning with a design, this then goes into the pricing of the project and then the construction of the garden area. I find sometimes it’s easier to think of us as specialist builders for your garden with the architectural bit built in at the beginning.

Now some people may question if there is a difference between a landscaper and a builder and the answer is an extremely big yes. Landscaping is a totally different area and type of build work and as much as there are similarities there are many big differences involved.

The whole point of a landscaper is to create a landscape, or in its smaller version a garden, and to deal with every detailed part of it. This is why good landscapers have to be capable of understanding and be able to undertake all areas of general building

works,

wood working, water features, basic electrical principles, irrigation systems and a whole list of other specialist subjects. Now don’t get me wrong we are not

jacks of all trades, so we often use other professionals to do the difficult and specialist parts of projects such as electrical work, for obvious safety reasons, or metal work.

But part of our job is to offer our customers the best service, best materials available many of which are supplied from us, a vast choice of plants to suit all budgets, the best range of artificial grass and last but not least a quality all round service and finish.

A gardener normally maintains a garden and offers advice on planting, a landscaper is the person who makes the magic happen in the first place. So if you would like us to come and put some magic back into your garden, come and speak to the Costa Blanca’s leading garden design and landscaping specialist - Charlesworth Gardens.
