Anyway to cut a short story short, with his hands having gone between my legs to rope me in nice and tight, we got off the ground pretty swiftly….and were soon soaring high above the mountains, with my heart pounding and my voice for once quashed.
As we flew, my voice returned. Amazing, I managed to say. My heart sounded louder than a broken washing machine dashed upon rocks (still plugged in). But I had already made a deal with myself to not faint, or die, cos that is not an option as a single mother.
Stunning was a word I slipped into the slipstream as I admired the mountains, teeny tiny villages below and the gigantic all- encompassing horizons.
We flew. We soared above the mountains. The thermals gripped. I literally felt like a bird. I was terrified but exhilarated. Every five minutes my pilot asked gently in my ear if I was ok. (Some people get dizzy apparently so he has to keep asking). I lied a few times. As the journey continued my mixed-message bleating was less fake and within time became entirely grateful.
Illogically the fearful part of me
distrusted circling high (we went above 400 metres) and the buzzing part of me enjoyed the riskier swooping next to the cliffs. I am blonde. Ooh I tell you though, adrenaline is the best drug ever……
So. What a day I had. No, I am not going tell you about the night....

Hilariously I was so over excited by the whole thing I forgot to fill up on petrol as I hit the motorway home so my heart was in my mouth staring at the little yellow light most of the way home. Always a cheap alternative to get your heart racing if you don’t like heights.
