HAS YOUR OUTDOORS CARD Expired?

Now that the Ministry of Natural Resourc- es & Forestry (MNRF) no longer sends out notices for the renewal of your Outdoors Card, many unsuspecting hunters and anglers may not realize their hunting and fishing licences have expired! Thousands of fishing and hunt- ing Outdoors Cards expired on December 31, 2015. Since we are now in prime-time fishing weather, if you haven’t already done so, don’t forget to renew your expired card today! Remember, if you don’t apply on-line to obtain a temporary card, it will take approxi- mately three weeks for you to receive your new card through regular mail. This is impor- tant, because if you don’t want to be fined you must carry your Outdoors Card, or Temporary Outdoors Card, and fishing licence tag with you whenever you are fishing.

LAST OPPORTUNITY TO FISH FOR FREE IN 2016! For many years, Canadian residents have been able to fish in Ontario without buying a fishing licence on two occasions. One oppor- tunity has already passed, the Family Fishing Weekend in February. However, families can still take advantage of the Family Fishing Week from July 2-10.

Participants fishing without a licence must do so under the requirements and limits associated with a conservation fishing licence though. Anglers should be aware of the fact that most catch and possession limits, and some size limits, are different for holders of a sport fishing licence verses those holding a conservation licence.

During this week, non-residents of Canada will still be required to purchase an Ontario Outdoors Card and either a 1-day, 8-day, 1-year or 3-year sport or conservation fishing licence to go angling. The single day licence doesn’t require an Outdoors Card. For further information, please consult the 2016 Fish- ing Ontario Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary.

As the MNRF states: this week provides “… a great opportunity to get young people and new anglers hooked on fishing without needing to buy a licence …” It is also an excel- lent way to introduce people to Ontario’s Great Out-of-Doors!
