Without prompting, Brittany, our server, brought Bailey an ice-cold designated dog bowl of fresh water – a very good sign. While some dining establishments just tolerate the pres- ence of dogs, Ulele staff enjoy them, all the while following proper dog dining protocol. We began our dining experience with a couple of appe-

tizers: Charbroiled Oysters, grilled with garlic butter and a combination of grated Parmesan and Romano cheeses. Mouthwatering. The Okra Fries are hand-cut then tossed in lime juice and sea salt, served with homemade ketchup. These aren’t really fried as much as they are charred crisp, bringing out their remarkable flavor. The bottle of Enzi Chardonnay that accompanied our

meal was just right for several reasons. First, as tastes and enjoyment go, this was the perfect foil for a warm afternoon - refreshing and buttery. Second, named after Andrea Gonzmart Williams beloved German Shepherd, Enzi, $5 from every bottle purchased is donated to Oncology research at the University of Florida Small Animal Hospital. We’ll toast to that, Enzi. Our entrees included the Ulele Burger, a blend of short

rib, brisket and chuck burger, char-grilled (seriously) to per- fection, topped with the house steak sauce, Wisconsin sharp cheddar, portobello mushrooms, fire-roasted red peppers and fried leeks, all of which toppled the brioche bun on its side. We also ordered the New York Strip Loin, served atop White Cheddar Popcorn Mashed Potatoes, and the Florida Pompano, a masterful creation of pan-seared pompano filet, sundried tomato shallot cream and fried carrot ribbons. Oh, and speaking of carrots, Executive Chef Eric Lackey delivered a lovely plate of fresh steamed carrots to Bailey when he heard those were her favorite treat. Yes, she approved. Ulele is to Florida-native what the Columbia is to

Spanish restaurants - another gem in the crown jewel of dining from the Gonzmart family and their team.
