ulele A Florida Original.

SITUATED ALONG THE BANKS of the scenic Hillsborough River in Tampa stands the beautifully-restored 1906 Water Works Building. A little more than a year ago, it opened with much fanfare as Ulele, the newest restaurant concept from fourth generation family member and president of Columbia Restaurant Group, Richard Gonzmart. As part of the restoration proj-

ect, the spring, now called Ulele Spring, has been fully restored to its natural freshwater flow of 2,000 gal- lons per minute. Over the bridge, just beyond the bronze statue of Princess Ulele, is Water Works Park, an exten- sion of Tampa’s Riverwalk. There’s a dog park, picnic areas, playground, splash pad and performance pavilion. The food, ambiance and Ulele’s

adjacent 2100 square foot brewery have garnered praise, rave reviews and awards since its opening. Celebrity chef and restaurateur Emeril Lagasse featured Ulele on his Cooking Channel show, Emeril’s Florida, earlier this year. Then, the restaurant was named a winner in OpenTable’s Diners’ Choice Awards. The unique menu fuses Native-

American and multi-cultural influ- ences with local ingredients that are sourced fresh every day. There is a fun vibe with a lot for

the eyes to feast on as well - from the art on the walls to the sunsets off the water. The outdoor dining area, with bright yellow Ulele umbrellas amply covering each table, invites a leisurely, quiet dining experience. Our party of three tagged will-

ingly along to enjoy a feast, as Bailey, The New Barker Dining Doggie Diva, did what she has become famously known for: politely accommodating her growing army of adoring fans.
