meet demands of the 2020 workplace The head of careers at Buckinghamshire New University says students are already being equipped to meet the top 10 skills for the workplace in 2020
The top 10 list was outlined in the Future of Jobs report released at the recent World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland.
Head of careers Kath Dunn said: “It's very encouraging to see that many of the skills we help students develop are outlined in the list of top 10 skills for 2020 in the Future of Jobs report.
“At Bucks New University, we pride ourselves on the academic and personal support that we offer to our diverse community of students. Our aim is to encourage everyone to develop to their full potential and rehearse crucial skills relevant to the modern and future workplace."
Explaining the shift in trends between 2015 and 2020, Dunn said: “The report indicates that the speed of change, the impact
of increasing automation, and sophisticated technology in some areas will change the types of skills required for certain fields of work. “Employers contributing to the report have suggested that skills such as creativity, critical thinking, cognitive flexibility and emotional intelligence will be even more important in the 2020 workplace than they were in 2015.
“For the new generation workforce, this shift in skill trends reflects the speed of change expected in job roles and the need to adapt, process and effectively communicate new information.
“The report suggests that social skills will be in higher demand across all industries, and individuals who are resilient, open to learning and development, and positive in their relationships with others are far more likely to be able to ride this wave of change."
