business focus 31 Community spirit gets the royal touch
Being involved in the local community is very important to Buckinghamshire law firm B P Collins LLP, and this summer it is helping one very important client to play a special part in the 90th birthday celebrations for Her Majesty The Queen
The Queen is patron to Chalfont St Peter-based Epilepsy Society and, with B P Collins' support, the charity was allocated 10 tickets for The Patron’s Lunch – a classic British 'street party' which will take place in The Mall at St James Park on June 12.
In a campaign launched in January, the charity sought to find five 'Epilepsy Heroes' to attend the event with a guest, and Jo Wengler, philanthropy manager, says they were inundated with nominations.
“We’ve had a tremendous response, which is wonderful as this has been an opportunity for us to give recognition to somebody whose life has been affected by epilepsy and take pride of place as the nation celebrates Her Majesty’s milestone birthday,” she said. “We are truly honoured to be part of The Patron’s Lunch and are absolutely thrilled that B P Collins has generously provided funding for us to attend.”

Its charitable funds go into an annual stewardship fund administered by HoB, which is committed to supporting and strengthening local communities by providing financial support to vital projects throughout Buckinghamshire.
B P Collins is also a keen contributor on the sporting front and is a founding member of the Bucks Sporting Lunch Club.

Hopkins, said: “Given our long- standing relationship with Epilepsy Society, spanning nearly 20 years, we know what a terrific job it does in helping families and those affected by epilepsy, so we felt it was a fitting tribute to support the charity with tickets to this very special event.
“In giving the ‘Epilepsy Heroes’ the opportunity to attend such an iconic day, we hope it will allow them to receive the recognition they so richly deserve.”
More than 10,000 people,the
majority of whom will be representatives from the patron’s organisations, are expected to attend the lunch, which recognises the monarch’s unrelenting support and service to the community during her 63-year reign.
B P Collins’ own commitment extends across many charity and community groups and in 2015 it teamed up with Buckinghamshire’s Community Foundation Heart of Bucks (HoB), helping to ensure its support would be shared countywide.
Its twice yearly lunches have attracted some of the top names in sport as guest speakers, including Eddie “the Eagle” Edwards and swimmer Sharron Davies, while the next event, on May 20, will hear from Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic gold medallist Amy Williams MBE.
The events raise funds each year for the Bucks SportsAid Foundation, which provides funds to support the county’s top young athletes and, as guest of honour, Williams will present cheques for £750 to two up-and- coming sports stars.
