Staycity adds 125 new apartments

Staycity opens the doors to a further 125 apartments at its popular London Heathrow site with the addition of a guest lounge and café on the ground floor and breakfast area and terrace on the podium level.

The extension to Staycity Heathrow sees the fast- growing aparthotel operator moving into its neighbouring property, giving it a total of 269 studios, and one and two- bed apartments.

Staycity Heathrow is the second location to include a dedicated lounge area offering somewhere to work, meet and eat. As well as the café and lounge, it also has a fitness room, guest laundry, luggage lockers and car park.

Staycity Heathrow first opened in May 2012 and has become a popular stopover for both business travellers flying into and out of the UK and leisure guests, boasting an average occupancy of 85%.

“We have had a high level of interest in Heathrow since we opened,” commented Staycity CEO and founder Tom Walsh. “There is a strong demand from those travelling in and out of Heathrow as well as those taking the mainline rail out of London Paddington and people working with or visiting the many businesses in the area.”

The apartments are a one- minute walk from Hayes & Harlington rail service, with a 12-minute service into Heathrow’s terminals.

Travelodge opens second Oxford hotel

In February, the lord mayor of Oxford, councillor Rae Humberstone, and the warden of Keble College, Sir Jonathan Phillips, joined Peter Gowers, Travelodge chief executive and Jo Boydell, Travelodge chief financial officer to open formally the Oxford Abingdon Road Travelodge.

The company’s 524th hotel is a purpose-built, 83-room property which represents an investment value of £6.5 million and has created 23 new jobs. The hotel features contemporary design and a Bar Café. Adjacent to the city’s Redbridge Park-and-Ride site, it is ideally located to serve both the city centre and its growing technology parks.

Gowers announced at the opening that the company is seeking to double its presence in Oxfordshire, with plans to open or secure further sites in key locations including Oxford, Abingdon, Didcot, Witney, Banbury and Henley-on- Thames.

This proposed Oxfordshire expansion programme is expected to represent a total investment value of £40m and to create 175 new jobs, offering a £10m boost to the local economy.

The Oxford Abingdon Road Travelodge is managed by Dion Webster who lives in Wantage and who joined Travelodge after a 20-year career with the NHS, managing an emergency-services call centre.
