commercial property 41 Space mission with Metric

We’ve been creating work spaces for companies of all sizes in the Thames Valley for 45 years. In that time we’ve seen the workplace change beyond all recognition, writes Jason Hart, managing director, Metric Office Furniture & Interiors

There is an obvious correlation with what we deliver and what’s going on in the commercial property market.

We are lucky in so much as whatever the market is doing there is always a requirement for our services. In recent years when the market was slow the trend was very much towards consolidation and space saving. During this time we found a multitude of innovative ways to make clever use of space.

More recently though, with the upturn in the market we are seeing a shift towards the creation of more productive work spaces which incorporate informal areas. Employers are placing more importance on the wellbeing of their staff and providing them with ‘get away from the desk’ areas – areas where

they can chat, brainstorm and be social.

‘Zoning’ is very much the order of the day. Although open-plan spaces have long been accepted as the ‘norm’ (and they worked a treat when space saving was the order of the day) they can be noisy and disruptive. This can have a negative impact on productivity. So, by zoning the office space and providing a combination of quiet and collaborative environments you can achieve both a happy, motivated workforce and, in turn, increased productivity.

What’s more, creating areas for a specific purpose encourages people to move around and adopt a variety of different postures during the course of the day – essential for workplace health.

Zoning doesn’t necessarily mean building walls either. Innovative new office furniture combined with clever, thoughtful design can achieve the optimal blend of private, shared, formal and informal spaces. Workplaces that actually work.

The advent of individual working booths, hot desking and acoustic pods (to mention but a few) facilitate the process. We have recently renovated our new showroom to illustrate just what can be achieved in an office space. Over two floors we showcase some of the very best products available on the market to help our customers achieve optimal performance from their office space. We aim to provide a ‘London’ style showroom to companies in the Thames Valley.

We’d be delighted to welcome you.
