Gatwick Airport is determined to expand; these are designs for a new terminal if a second runway becomes reality. Looking toward the future
Te speed of Gatwick’s transformation has been astonish- ing and the airport has grown by over eight million passen- gers in just over five years. It has hit the 40 million annual passengers mark a full decade ahead of industry predictions. All this sets the airport up nicely in its bid against its more famous and powerful rival, Heathrow, for the right to build the U.K.’s next runway. London is the world’s largest aviation market, but no new
runway has been built in the region since the Second World War. Te need for more runway capacity is overdue and af- ter years of campaigning, the Government will finally decide whether Gatwick or Heathrow should be permitted to build the much needed new runway. If it wins, Gatwick’s ambition will remain sky high and there
can be little doubt it will not be long before it becomes the world’s most efficient two-runway airport – offering even more choice for its passengers worldwide.
Big changes will be coming to Gatwick. Hopeful plans for a second runway are underway, along with a new terminal.
