Te new face of Gatwick Airport
Gatwick Airport has been transforming itself with over £1 billion invested in the last five years, and a further £1 bil- lion being spent on improvements going forward. Unrecognisable from a few years ago, much of this invest- ment has focussed on improving the airport experience for its passengers. Gatwick pioneered state-of-the-art security in its South Terminal. A world first, the facility is able to clear passengers through security in under five minutes. Tey have also opened dedicated lanes for families or passengers need- ing special assistance to facilitate movement through security lines. In addition, the shopping and eating experience at the airport has been revolutionized. Tese are just some of the many changes you can expect when landing in Gatwick. WestJet passengers will arrive at the airport’s North Termi-
nal. Tose in the first wave of flights will notice construction as the airport’s transformation is ongoing. Other new facili- ties opening soon will include the world’s largest self-service check-in area and bag drop – designed to speed passengers through the terminals with faster check-in times. Another world-leading security area will halve the time it takes to transit through, and a world-class departure lounge will offer more retail and restaurant space with enhanced choices. And work to improve passenger experiences will not stop
there. Gatwick Airport train station is slated to be rebuilt with two new fleets of trains that will serve the airport and double rail capacity by 2020. Meaning a train will leave the airport on the 25 minute journey to central London every 2.5 minutes!
The Airbus A380, the world’s largest commercial aircraft, flies daily between Dubai and Gatwick Airport. The airplane is a double-deckered, four-engine jet airliner that can hold up to 544 people.
