Pharmacy is tasked with carrying out MUR for both Respiratory and Diabetic patients. Currently, the service offering from pharmacy does not align with the service requirements within GP practices.
Pharmacy Manager John Hamill explains, “The initial roll out of the MUR service was in my opinion-
inappropriately introduced. The process should have included GPs and their practice nurses at the outset. Now we have a situation whereby pharmacists are carrying out MURs and their GP counterparts are (in many instances) oblivious to any such reviews.
“The details of the service didn't (in my opinion) clearly specify patient focused criteria with defined outcome measures to follow. Therefore, pharmacists have been working in
