Automation has changed the way medicines are dispensed within McKenzie’s Pharmacy and this has been a significant innovation in a number of key ways. To this end, the team were delighted to pick up the Innovation & Change in Pharmacy Practice Award.

Pharmacists are often extremely busy people working within restrictive conditions and have little time to review their working practises. This project has freed up a significant amount of pharmacist time which has
enabled them to spend more time interacting with patients in a more clinically focused role.
“Our pharmacists now have greater contact with the patients at the point of dispensing, giving them more opportunities to counsel the patient, signpost for more appropriate services and to make interventions that lead to better outcomes for their patients.
“Our new layout with forward facing dispensing has led to a more personalised service with the patients having more time to discuss decisions about their care. This more personal approach to dispensing has been extremely well received and has made the pharmacy a more welcoming environment for patients.”
